Maricopa Update
Last week Homer Higgenbottom and Januvius Winterbottom met at the local coffee shop to discuss Valentine's Day strategy. Homer asked, "Have you bought a Valentine's Day present for your wife?" Januvius replied, "I'm taking her to Hawaii and I am saving her money." Homer requested, "I think an explanation is in order." Januvius explained, "Since the beginning of the year my wife has been saying that she would like the bathroom to be remodeled. I really didn't want to remodel the bathroom, but I checked into doing it, and it would cost me over $10,000, and that's with me doing some of the work, which is not what I wanted to do. Then I checked into spending a week in Hawaii. It would cost me a lot less than $10,000. I told her I would save money and give her the vacation of a lifetime. So now I'm going to get a whole lot of brownie points with her, I don't have to remodel the bathroom, and I'm saving money." Homer asked, "Does she know that you are only doing this for you own selfish motivation and not because you are really thinking of her?" "Not exactly. And I suppose you are going to throw that whole Four Way Test thing at me." Homer exclaimed, "Don't drop it this time."

The Rotary Club of Santa Maria Elevator Speech
We are a leadership organization comprised of local business, civic, and professional leaders.
We are a nonpolitical nonsectarian service club.
We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships, and get things done in our community.
In 2020 we had a virtual fundraiser and raised over $53,000 which we gave to five local charities:
Orcutt Trails
CASA
Casa of Hope
ECHO/Band of Brothers
YMCA
We support the Interact Club at St. Joseph's High School and we donate scholarships to Allan Hancock College.
We clean up Buena Vista Park and with three other Rotary clubs we coordinate the Rotary Christmas Parade.
Come and learn more about our club's humanitarian service and high ethical standards and help us build good will in our community.
THE FOUR-WAY TEST
of the things we think, say, or do:
1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
First The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
Second High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as on opportunity to serve society;
Third The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
Fourth The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
ROTARIAN CODE OF CONDUCT
The following code of conduct has been adopted for the use of Rotarians:
As a Rotarian, I will
1. Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life
2. Deal fairly with others and treat them and their occupations with respect
3. Use my professional skills through Rotary to: mentor young people, help those with special needs, and improve people's quality of life in my community and in the world
4. Avoid behavior that reflects adversely on Rotary or other Rotarians
5. Help maintain a harassment-free environment in Rotary meetings, events, and activities, report any suspected harassment, and help ensure non-retaliation to those individuals that report harassment.
