Dear Rotarians,
I want to thank you all for your help in our club. This past week's meeting went way too long and that was my fault. Going forward speakers will know what our time limits are. Thank you all for your input...I hear it! Recovering from pneumonia so I'm feeling a little off.
This week we are meeting at Hancock College in the Fine Arts Building, Room F-243. Dean Rick Rantz will present Hancock's exciting UNITED program which will start next Fall. A map was sent out to all the members earlier this week. I will resend on Monday as a reminder!
We will be back at the SM Inn on January 23 where we will hear from a speaker with the City. We will be dark on the 30th.
We need speakers for the Month of February...so find those interesting topics and friends with great businesses and foundations that we need to know about!
February 27th will be a visit from our District Governor Marta Golding Brown!
Thank you all for adding so much to our club!
James Stoddard

"The fittest of today is not he who possesses the longest claws or talons It is he who has come into the fullness of recognition of the fact that his success is dependent upon the success of other men in the community in which he lives; that the success of his community is dependent upon the success of other communities; that none is sufficient unto himself; that no man can ever succeed alone."

RYLA
(Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)
Each year, thousands of young people take part in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program worldwide. Young people are chosen for their leadership potential to attend an all-expenses-paid camp to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice. Rotary clubs and districts select participants and facilitate the event’s curriculum. If you know of a high school underclassman (no seniors allowed) who would want to participate in this program, please give the name to President James, who is our RYLA Coordinator. The applications are due in January. The RYLA camp is April 11-14.

Maricopa Update
Last week Homer Higgenbottom and Januvius Winterbottom met at the local coffee shop to discuss travel plans. Homer began, "What has been happening with you this week?" "My wife is giving me a trip to Hawaii. And my neighbor's wife is giving him a trip to Hawaii, too," replied Januvius. Homer offered, "That sounds really great. How did this come about?" Januvius answered, "The other week my wife asked if I paid up my life insurance policy. I told her that I had. So she smiled and said that she was very proud of me and that she was going to give me a trip to Hawaii. She had already bought the tickets on Alaska Airlines and she got a deal on the special "fresh air seating." I've heard that those window seats are going like hotcakes. She got one for only $25 more than a regular seat." Homer interrupted, "And I suppose your neighbor's wife got the same deal for him?" "Exactly!" said Januvius. Homer thought for a second, then mused, "I think something may be going on here. You know that Alaska Airlines had a problem with a Boeing jet a few weeks ago. Perhaps your wife is trying to get rid of you. I suggest that you ask your wife to check the manufacturer of the airplane that she wants you to go to Hawaii on. Tell her "If it's Boeing, I'm not going!"
